Summit Denver: Barley reflects on recent baptisms

 [clear /]

Friends and Partners of Summit Denver,

Below you’ll see two pictures of baptisms we celebrated a couple of weeks ago. These were our 12th and 13th baptisms of the year, and what made them so unique is that they were performed by our members who were so instrumental in their friend coming to faith in Jesus.

Our vision from the beginning was that the greatest missionaries and evangelists of The Summit Denver would not be our staff, but our members who had been equipped to do the work of the ministry (Eph. 4:12). Last week we saw God make that vision a reality. This Sunday we’ll celebrate another story like this with another baptism!

Thanks for your prayers and support that make all this possible!

Friends and Partners of Summit Denver,

Here is a video updating all that’s been happening at The Summit this Summer. God is doing an amazing work and we’re thankful for your prayers and support that make this possible.

Please pray for this coming Sunday where we’ll be kicking off the Fall with a new preaching series in 1 Peter, baptisms of new Christians, dinner, and watching the Broncos game. We’re hoping all of this makes for a big Sunday in the life of the Summit!

Summit Spring ’12 Update

Hello Summit Church and Friends,

Spring is here and great things are happening in Denver. We wanted to give you a brief rundown on what’s occurred since our last update:

New Facility

We moved into our new facility in the heart of Downtown Denver — a warehouse in the middle of the RiNo Arts district.

Baptisms

We’ve baptized 9 adults within our church this year!

Growth

We continue to grow, with over 100 participants coming to our weekly gathering.

Click below for our latest update video!

Easter Sunday was particularly exciting as over 125 friends and neighbors from our community attended our service. Many of those guests and regular attendees made decisions to follow Jesus Christ for the first time in their lives.

Please continue to pray for The Summit as we start a new teaching series entitled “For the Good of the City” and study the book of Nehemiah together. Your continual support, financial gifts, and fervent prayers are literally changing lives. For this we are incredibly grateful. Join with us as we continue to expect great things from God and attempt great things for God.

Summit Denver Working out New Digs

Friends of Summit Denver,

I wanted to update you as to our progress in developing our new space. After closing on our new lease in November, we took the past several weeks to have several workdays where people from our church and our community gave time to get our space ready. It’s still a work in progress, but we’ll have everything completed by our January 1st move-in date. You can see the attached photos to see the progress first-hand.

Just a few other notes we thought you may be interested in:- this past Sunday night we had our first ever Summit Class (new members’ class). We had around 25 people in attendance and at least 11 have indicated their desire to become covenant members of our church. Please pray for the new member interviews we’ll be conducting next week.
– we just wrapped up our four month “Legacy” series in 1 and 2 Timothy and are in the middle of a four week Advent series called, “Hope is Here” from Luke 1 and 2.
– we have seen our Sunday evening gathering grow to around 75 adults weekly. Please pray that our growth continues and remains healthy. As always, thanks for your prayers and support! For the gospel,

Responding to Growth in Denver

Friends and Partners of Summit Denver,

We know it’s been several weeks since we updated you on what’s been happening here. Here’s a quick update of what has been going on:

– the last time we e-mailed you, our Sunday evening service was around 40 people. This past month, we had over 60 people at every Sunday night gathering.

– to accommodate our growth, we planted a new City Group last month out of an existing group that had grown too large. By the end of September, we plan to plant two new groups. One of these groups will be in the Littleton area – our hope is to provide better community for the several families driving to us from South Denver, as well as having a missional hub for our church to reach that community.

– we’re in the midst of our Fall Series that we’re calling “Legacy: Advancing and Protecting the Mission” where we’re going verse by verse through the books of 1 and 2 Timothy.

With all this, please keep praying for us, our church, and for healthy growth to continue. We feel like God is doing big things, and we just want to be good stewards of His church. Thank you for your prayers and support.

Hello Summit Church friends!

Greetings from the Mile High City! It’s been an amazing summer so far and we wanted to take a few minutes to update you on how life and ministry has progressed in Denver. God is moving in this city in amazing ways and we would love to share with you what that has looked like. Please click the video link below to view a brief update from Bryan Barley, Lead Pastor of the Summit Church.

Growing into Summer with Summit Denver

Friends and Partners of Summit Denver,

We hope that the beginning of Summer finds you well! We’ve enjoyed the arrival of warm weather here in Denver, and are looking forward to the coming months. Here are a few updates as to what’s been happening for our church:

– We just had our first ever ServeDenver – our week of service to the city. We had over 40 people from five different churches/organizations help us serve the homeless, public schools, unwed mothers, and local government. You can read more about this here.

– We just launched a new sermon series called “Movement” where we’re looking at six major urban centers in Acts 14-21 that God turned upside down with the gospel, and asking what it would look like for God to do the same in urban Denver. Here is a picture of the beginning of the series. Please pray that this series pushes our people to think more and more like missionaries, as well as our church would grow in our belief that God can do things greater than we could ask or imagine in this city.

Thanks for your prayers and support!

Summit Denver Celebrates First Baptism

Friends and partners of The Summit Church Denver,

Last night we celebrated our first baptism, which you can see in this video. It was a great time of gathering together to teach the gospel, and then proclaim the gospel through baptism.

Please pray specifically for us that this is the first of many baptisms our church will be able to experience and celebrate. Thanks as always for your prayers and support.

Living and Eating Together in Denver

Friends and Partners of Summit Church Denver,

One of the things we highly prioritize at our church is gospel community and sharing life with one another, and we believe one of the best ways that we can develop this is by sharing meals with one another. Attached is a picture that gives a glimpse into one of the many ways we try to encourage community: our weekly meal in downtown following our Sunday night gathering.

As you can see (and forgive my awkward stare into the camera), we’ve “taken over” a large portion of a downtown restaurant, and our people are talking about life, Jesus, and their week ahead. As we grow and our numbers increase, please pray that we maintain this strong sense of community.

Thanks for your prayers and support.

Summit Denver announces ServeDenver 2011

Friends and Partners of The Summit Church Denver,

As March comes to a close, we’ve had a great month in our new space at our local coffee shop, Coffee at the Point. We’ve already seen many new guests attend and our numbers grow. In anticipation of further growth, as well as in anticipation of Coffee at the Point possibly extending their Sunday evening business hours, we will be moving to a new location beginning April 3rd.

Attached you will find a couple of pictures of our new space – a renovated warehouse in the RiNo (River Arts North District) part of our neighborhood of Five Points. We’re thankful for friends like you who make opportunities like this possible through your giving and prayers. Please continue to pray for us that we see this new resource as nothing more than a simple tool that will further enable us to make disciples who make disciples of Jesus in the city of Denver.

Many of you have asked me how you or your church can be involved in our church planting efforts here in urban Denver. Beyond your prayers and financial giving, the major way that you can help us is be involved in what we are calling ServeDenver 2011. This is a great chance for our partners to take a mission trip here to Denver, see firsthand the work we’re doing, have people gain first-hand experience in a post-Christian urban context, and be a blessing to us and the city.

Click here the document giving more specifics, but below will be a few highlights to give you more information.

Please let me know if you have any questions. As always, thank you for your prayers and support.

 ServeDenver 2011

What it is: ServeDenver is The Summit’s week of service (June 5-9) to the city of the Denver. In an effort to bless the city and to demonstrate the love of Jesus in real and practical ways, those participating in ServeDenver will serve alongside various organizations in Denver to help in anything from refugee relief to supporting local public schools.

Major Objectives: For the city – we desire that we would tangibly bless several of the non-profit organizations and schools in the city, having ServeDenver participants serve them in whatever capacity best meets their needs.

For Partnering Churches – we desire that partnering churches and participants are given a glimpse into what church planting and ministry looks like in a very difficult, post-Christian urban area, and consequently are better equipped to do ministry in their respective contexts.

For The Summit Denver – we desire that this week helps build The Summit’s reputation for being for the good of the city, and further establishes our credibility to share the gospel and grow our church in our community.

What we Need from you: We need the following information from participating churches:

–       Number of participants.

–       Dates that you’ll be able to participate.

This will allow us to begin communicating with the groups we’ll be serving and specifying the projects we’ll be participating in this week.
Sincerely,

Bryan Barley
